My pour over turned into a muddy mess when I forgot to grind finer

I was at my kitchen counter last Tuesday trying to make a quick cup before work, and the water just sat on top of the grounds for 4 minutes before slowly dripping through, leaving me with a bitter, cloudy cup that I had to dump and start over, has anyone else had a grind size disaster ruin their morning routine?

Rinsed my filters too aggressively once and tore a hole right through the paper, ended up with coffee grounds swimming all through my mug and had to strain it through a paper towel. Honestly it tasted like bitterness and regret but I still drank it because I was already late for a job. Ngl that day taught me to handle filter paper like it's made of butterfly wings.
