I finally got a chance to use my new pour-over setup at a friend's cabin and it was a total disaster

Last weekend up near Lake Tahoe, I brought my fancy gooseneck kettle and ceramic dripper to make coffee for everyone. I pre-heated everything, but I completely forgot to bring my scale, so I was just eyeballing the water. The result was this super weak, bitter mess that nobody wanted to finish. I mean, it was embarrassing, like I brought a sports car and forgot the keys. Has anyone else had a gear fail ruin a whole batch like that?

Ugh the worst! I bet the cabin water itself was part of the problem too, that mountain well water can be super hard.
