Cold brew is actually better with cheap beans. Changed my mind after 3 batches.
I used to buy single origin $18 bags for my cold brew and thought the subtle notes would come through. Then my neighbor who runs a cafe told me they use their cheapest house blend for cold brew on purpose. He said the cold process mutes all those fancy flavors anyway so you're just wasting money. I tried it with a $7 bag from the grocery store last month and honestly it tastes the same. Anyone else notice specialty beans are pointless for cold brew?

So you're telling me my $6 gas station beans make cold brew just as good?

Can't say I agree with you there @jordan184. The grind is way too coarse on those cheap beans and they taste flat when you let them sit overnight. You might be saving money but you're not getting that smooth, rich flavor a good cold brew should have.
