My old foreman told me to never trust a 'good enough' finish pass on aluminum

He said it would always show tool marks under the right light, and I thought he was just being picky (you know, one of those 'back in my day' guys). So on a job for a local brewery's tap handles, I ran the final pass at 0.005" like I always did, figuring it was fine. Got the parts back from anodizing, and under their bright bar lights, every single one had these faint swirls that looked awful. Had to eat the cost and re-run all 50 pieces at 0.002" like he said. Anyone have a go-to finish pass depth for 6061 they swear by?
