My rain barrel setup gave out in a big storm yesterday

I had it hooked up to my garage gutter for months, but the connector piece cracked right at the base during that heavy rain. Water just poured out all over the driveway instead of filling the barrel. I'm thinking I need a sturdier plastic or maybe a metal fitting. Has anyone found a good way to make these connections last longer?

So your rain barrel decided to become a waterfall feature for your driveway? Classic. I swear those plastic fittings are made to fail just when you need them most. You might be onto something with metal, but in my experience, even that can rust out. Honestly, half my garden projects are just finding new ways to stop things from leaking.

Yeah, the rust thing is real. What kind of metal fittings did you try that gave out on you? I had some cheap galvanized ones that barely made it through two winters before they started weeping.
