Paid $85 for a lawn service to blow my driveway and they missed half the leaves

Booked a local company off Nextdoor last fall to clean up after the big oak in my backyard dropped everything. Guy showed up with a leaf blower for 20 minutes, hit the front walkway, and left. I checked the side yard and back patio the next morning and there were still piles everywhere. Called to complain and they said I'd need to pay for a second visit. Anyone else had a landscaper here in Westlake blow you off like that?

Used to think paying for help was just easier than doing it myself, but stories like this make me rethink that whole approach. It's a real bummer when you pay for a service and they just half-ass it like that, especially on Nextdoor where everyone is hyped up. Honestly, it changed my mind about trusting online recommendations without seeing the actual work first.

Trust but verify, that's what I say. Seen too many hyped up jobs fall flat in person.

Exactly this. People hype up contractors like they're miracle workers and then you get someone who can barely nail two boards together straight. Word of mouth used to mean something, but now it's just everyone shouting about their cousin's friend who did a "great job" on their deck last summer. You gotta actually go see the finished work yourself, not just take someone's word for it. I've learned the hard way that a 5-star review doesn't mean much when the person giving it has zero standards to begin with. Trust but verify is basically a survival skill at this point.
