Warning: That 'easy' chimney cap job in Redmond turned into a full day fighting a hornet nest.

Got called out for a simple cap replacement on a brick chimney, but when I got on the roof I found a huge paper nest built right into the flue tile. Spent 6 hours dealing with pest control and cleaning out the mess before I could even start my actual work. Anyone ever had a wildlife issue totally wreck your schedule like that?

Totally agree with @umaadams, those surprise issues can ruin your whole plan. Makes you want to add a "wildlife tax" to every quote just in case.

That sounds like a nightmare way to spend a day. Those surprise wildlife problems can completely blow up a simple job. Hope the rest of the week goes smoother.

Last summer I had a raccoon family move into a client's attic right before we were set to paint the exterior. Took three days and a wildlife guy to get them out, and the smell lingered forever. It's crazy how one little animal can turn a two-day job into a whole week of extra work. Makes you double-check every nook before starting anything now.
