TIL cats do the slow blink on purpose, and my vet in Dayton backed it up
I always thought the slow blink thing was made up by people who spend too much time on cat videos. Then 4 months ago my tabby started doing it at me from across the room, and I read that it might be a sign of trust. I tried blinking back slow one evening and he did it right back, then walked over and sat on my foot. At our checkup in Dayton my vet said it's a real thing, cats use it to say they mean no harm, and it works better with strangers than with their own people. So how do you all get a shy cat to blink first without just staring at it like a weirdo?
