Stuffed a 10-day trip into a 28L bag and a stranger at the airport made my day

Honestly, I was just sitting at the gate in Phoenix, trying to zip my overstuffed backpack. This older lady next to me leaned over and said, 'Honey, I've been watching you pack for 15 minutes. You're an artist.' Tbh, I laughed and told her it was my first try at a long trip with just one bag. She pointed at my rolled-up jeans and said that trick saved her on a month-long trip to Italy. Has anyone else had a random person give you a packing tip that just clicked?

My cousin is a flight attendant and she told me the same thing about rolling jeans. She said it ruins the fabric over time. Her trick is to lay them flat, fold them in half, and then just drape them over the top of everything else in the bag. They act like a buffer for your other stuff and come out way less wrinkled. That loose roll method sounds smart too. I tried the flat fold last trip and it worked great.

Okay but the jeans thing is actually a trap lol. Rolling them tight can set in some really bad creases along the roll lines, and denim takes forever to smooth out. I learned that the hard way on a trip to Berlin. The better move is to fold them flat once, then roll them loosely around something soft, like a sweater. Keeps the shape way better. That lady meant well, but that specific tip can wreck your good jeans.
