Bought a $50 packing cube set that was completely useless

I fell for those expensive compression packing cubes everyone raves about. Paid $50 for a set of three from a popular brand and they barely fit in my carry-on. The zippers jammed after two uses and the fabric ripped on a trip to Denver last month. I ended up using regular ziplock bags which worked way better and cost me nothing. You don't need fancy gear to pack light, just roll your clothes tight. Has anyone else had luck with cheap alternatives instead of those overpriced cubes?

That $50 price tag stings. My Target cubes cost $12 and have held up for three years of solid use. Ziplocs work fine too but I like having something a little sturdier for packing.

I saw a travel blog say the same thing about Ziplocs working better than those expensive cubes.
