Vent: A hotel job in Phoenix made me rethink my whole tack strip method
I was doing a big hallway in a hotel last week, and the old concrete floor had these weird dips I didn't catch with my level. I ended up with a ripple right at a doorway because the strip wasn't making full contact... now I double-check every foot with a straight edge before I even open the nail box. What's your trick for making sure strips are solid on uneven slab?

Been there. Those hidden dips will get you every time. A long level and a bright work light are my best friends for that now.

Found that out the hard way last year. I started running a string line across the whole floor before I even mix the mud. Lets me spot those low spots right away. A good headlamp beats a work light for me, leaves both hands free to fix the problem. Takes more time up front but saves a ton of headache later.
