Saw a study a while back about how not using knee pads can lead to arthritis way down the line. It's not just about comfort now, it's about your joints being totally wrecked in twenty years. The pressure from kneeling directly on hard surfaces does real damage over time. That article stuck with me because it wasn't just some gear ad, it was actual medical advice. Using pads isn't being soft, it's just not being stupid about your own body. I'd rather look a bit dorky now than need a cane later.
