I finally figured out why my miters were always gaping

Been fighting with corner joints for months finally checked my saw's fence and it was off by almost 3 degrees after a bad drop last year. Anyone else ever had their tools knock out of alignment and just not notice?

3 degrees is basically just "eyeball it" territory at that point.

The "eyeball it" thing really gets at something bigger. People treat small margins like they don't matter, but it adds up fast. I see it all the time on the road with speed limits. If someone thinks going 5 over is fine, then 10 over is fine, then suddenly everyone is late and angry. Same with cooking or measuring stuff in a project, a little off here and there makes the whole thing wrong at the end. It's like everyone collectively decides that close enough is good enough until it isn't. Then we all act surprised when the final result is a mess.
