Chat with a finish carpenter about glue-ups changed my mind
I was talking to this old-timer, Jerry, at the lumberyard last Tuesday, and he said he never uses clamps for edge-glue-ups, just masking tape and CA glue. He showed me the technique right there with some scrap, and the joint was rock solid in 30 seconds. Has anyone else tried the tape-and-CA method for small panels?

and honestly Jerry's method makes total sense for smaller panels since CA glue bonds almost instantly and the tape acts like a perfect clamp without all the setup time. a buddy of mine does it all the time for cutting boards and says he's never had a joint fail as long as he makes sure the edges are dead flat first. the key is hitting it with accelerator right after you put on the tape so the glue cures in like ten seconds instead of thirty.

Thirty seconds feels like an eternity when you're holding two boards together trying not to sneeze... I swear my arms start shaking by the time the glue grabs. Your buddy's got the right idea, ten seconds is barely enough time to question all my life choices.
