A trim carpenter in Nashville set me straight on coping joints

I used to miter every inside corner until a guy I was subbing for pointed out the gaps after a humid week. He had me try coping with a jigsaw and a file, now I don't even pull out the miter saw for those. Anyone else switch over after a job went sideways?

And here's the thing nobody mentions... coping looks cleaner but it's also a lifesaver when the drywall mud makes corners slightly off. I think that's the real reason half my old miters never closed up right.
