My boss in Tampa told me to stop answering emails after 6 PM and it actually worked

For about six months, I was always checking my work phone at night, thinking I was getting ahead. My boss pulled me aside after a project in March and said to shut it off completely after hours unless it was a real emergency. I started leaving my laptop in my car overnight. The weird thing is, my morning work got way better because I wasn't drained from the night before. Has anyone else's company made a rule like this that actually helped?

Notice how many of us treat our own time as LESS valuable than company time. We'll answer emails at dinner but put off a personal call until "work is done." Your boss drawing that line FOR you is huge because it forces a reset. It's like permission to stop the slow bleed of energy that 24/7 access creates. The real win is proving that guarding your off time makes your on time sharper. More places should be this smart about it.
