Heard my 22 year old coworker say she expects a promotion after 8 months and I almost choked on my coffee

It made me realize how much the unwritten rules around paying your dues have shifted since I started out in IT support back in 2012, so has anyone else noticed younger folks just asking for way more upfront than we ever would have?

My buddy's kid just graduated and expected to start at 70k with a corner office, like that's just how it works now. It's wild seeing people skip the grunt work phase entirely.

John648 you're spot on about the grunt work phase. I had a kid start with us last summer, fresh out of community college, and he was confused why he had to crawl under houses and clean out dead animals instead of just "managing the team." Told him the corner office comes after you've had a possum fall on your face at least once. That's just how it works, you know?
