Costco sleeping bag label said rated for 30F, and I froze my butt off at 38 in Flagstaff
The tag says comfort rating but that number is really the survival limit, which nobody explains at the store. Anyone else figure this out the hard way, or is it just me reading tags wrong?

Yeah, you are not alone on this at all. Those temp ratings are all over the place and the stores never bother to explain what they actually mean. That 30F on the tag is usually the number where you would survive the night, not where you would be warm and comfy. So at 38 you were basically in the danger zone, freezing but not dead, which is a real fun way to learn the difference. I made the same mistake with a cheap bag a few years back and woke up shivering so hard I could not fall back asleep. Your best bet is to add 15 or 20 degrees to whatever the tag claims and treat that as your real comfort number.
