Switched from canned air to a $7 bulb blower after a sensor scratch cost me a $180 clean
For about three years I blew dust off sensors and lens glass with canned air because it was fast and I always had a can in the bag. Then a client brought in a Nikon D750 with a scratched filter stack, and the scratch pattern lined up exactly with where propellant had spit onto the sensor, so that was a $180 repair plus a very awkward phone call. Now I use a rocket style bulb blower I picked up for $7 at a shop in Tacoma, and I hold the body face down so gravity does half the work. For sticky stuff that the bulb can't move, I use a sensor swab with two drops of eclipse fluid, one pass each way, never reusing a swab. The big change is I stopped rushing, because a two minute job done slow beats a two week wait for parts. Anyone here still keep canned air around for cleaning, or did you all drop it after a scare like mine?
