A retired guy in Phoenix watched me clean a focus screen and asked why I was scrubbing so hard
I was working on a customer's old SLR last month and I was pretty much attacking the focus screen with a microfiber cloth, thinking more pressure meant cleaner glass. The guy was standing nearby picking up a lens he'd dropped off, and he just said, "You're gonna scratch that, you know. The coating on those is softer than you think." I switched to a bulb blower first and only touched the screen with a light drag of a clean swab dipped in a tiny bit of distilled water, and the results were way better with zero streaks. Now I cringe thinking about how many screens I probably dulled over the past few years. Do you folks use a blower only on focus screens, or is there a wet method you trust more?
