TIL zip tying every cord into one tight bundle behind my desk was making my monitor flicker
I bought a 24 port zip tie pack in March and went crazy wrapping every cable under my desk into two tight snakes. After about 6 weeks my second monitor started flickering and my USB hub would cut out when I bumped the desk. I finally cut all the ties off and found the display cable had a deep kink where I had cranked it tight against the leg, plus my power brick was buried under the bundle and running hot. Now I use velcro straps with a little slack and a loop on anything that carries video. Did anyone else learn the hard way that tight ties are not the same as good cable management?
Isn't it funny how the fix for one thing always causes some other problem down the line? Same thing happens with phone chargers, you wrap them tight and the cord quits working a few months later. Tight just always feels faster in the moment, then you pay for it later.
