A guy at the Dayton truck stop showed me the velcro wrap trick, and my dash cam wires finally quit looking like spaghetti
I run long hauls and my cab was a mess of charging cables and a dash cam wire hanging down over the windshield for months. A mechanic named Ray at a Flying J in Dayton showed me how to loop the cord into a figure 8 and wrap it with a 6 inch velcro strap instead of using zip ties, which I had been fighting with forever because I needed to move stuff around. Took me about 15 minutes and 4 straps to redo the whole dash, and now nothing dangles and I can swap the camera to a different spot in 10 seconds. Anyone else use velcro over zip ties, or am I late to this party?
Been using velcro straps for years now and yeah zip ties are a pain once you need to change something. One thing I learned the hard way though, don't wrap the cable too tight with the velcro or you can pinch the wire over time, especially in the cold. Leave a little slack and it'll last way longer. Also keep the straps away from anything that gets hot like the defroster vents, the glue on the cheap ones gives up fast. I keep a bag of the 6 inch ones in the door pocket now, they cost almost nothing and you always find a use. Four straps for a whole dash sounds about right, you did good.
