Talked to a retired splicer about ladder racks, he changed my mind on straps

Guy I met on a job in Columbus last Tuesday said I was carrying too much slack on my reel and it was wrecking my back, so I started using the hook loop method he showed me. Does anyone else still haul spools the old way just because it's what you learned first?
