Saw a new fiber drop technique in a Denver suburb last month
The crew was using a small drone to pull the line over a busy street instead of a bucket truck. It looked fast, but I worry about signal loss and wind. Would you trust that method on a regular job?

That drone method is getting pretty common out here. I mean, they've got it down for crossing roads or tricky spots where a truck can't go. Signal loss is a thing, but the good crews use tethered drones with a direct line, so it's not just flying free. Wind would make me nervous too, but maybe they only run it on calm days.

Yeah but come on... is it really that big of a deal? I see @nancyd85's point about tethered drones, but that's a lot of fancy gear just to pull a line over a road. Seems like a solution looking for a problem half the time. I've watched crews do it the old way with a throw bag for years, and it works fine. Just feels like overcomplicating a simple job to me.
