Found out my employer is skimming my per-foot rate by 12 cents
I was going through old paycheck stubs last night and cross-checked with my work orders. Turns out my company pays me 38 cents a foot but charges the client 50 cents and pockets the difference. Has anyone else caught their shop doing this?

Have you checked if your pay stubs show the actual client rate or just what the company pays you? That 12 cent difference adds up fast when you figure it over a whole day of work or a full week. I'm a nurse so I deal with a different kind of billing, but I've seen similar shady stuff where agencies charge hospitals one rate and pay the nurse less while calling it "administration fees." It's worth finding out if they have a written policy about how pay rates are set and what gets kept for overhead, because if they're not upfront about it, that's a red flag.

Damn, that's messed up. Were you working under a 1099 or as a W2 employee when this was happening? I ask because the legal side gets real different depending on your tax status and how they classify you. If they're paying you per foot but keeping the rest, that sounds like they're treating you like a subcontractor while taking a cut like an employer without paying their share of taxes.
