A guy at a coffee shop saw my bullet journal and asked if it was a 'work thing'
I was at a local spot in Austin last week, just setting up my weekly spread with a simple pen. A guy at the next table leaned over and asked, 'Is that a work thing? It looks so neat.' I told him it was my bullet journal, my way of keeping track of everything from grocery lists to big ideas. He got quiet for a second and then said, 'I just use my phone for that. Isn't it faster?' I explained that for me, the act of writing it down helps me remember and actually do the things. He nodded but still looked a bit confused. It made me think about how the system can look pointless from the outside. Has anyone else had a chat like this where you had to explain the 'why' behind the physical book?

It's more than just speed, isn't it? The phone is for quick capture, but the book makes you slow down and really see what you wrote. That physical act builds a different kind of memory in your brain. People forget that a tool can be about the process, not just the end result. His confusion just shows how we're trained to value only digital efficiency now. The point is what works for you, even if it looks like extra steps to someone else.

Ever think the paper itself holds the memory?
