I finally gave up on the 'always book the cheapest hostel' rule after a trip to Lisbon.
Everyone says it's the key to saving cash, but I spent a full day and a half just trying to find the place and then dealing with a broken lock. Has anyone else found that the cheapest option sometimes costs you more in time and stress?

Was it worth the hassle? That extra twenty bucks buys you a real address and a working door. The cheapest bed can be the most expensive lesson.

So what was the actual lesson learned? Like did the lock break or did you get the wrong unit?

Oh man, the lesson was to actually call the place. I booked a "cozy studio" online once that was just a mattress in a storage room. The door didn't even lock right. Now I always call and ask specific questions, like "Is this a separate apartment with a real lock?" Saved me from another sketchy situation last month.
