Hot take: people overpay for flights because they search wrong

Honestly, I see friends booking direct round trips from Chicago to Miami for $400 when a split ticket with a stop in Atlanta could be $250. They just use one search engine and grab the first result. Has anyone else saved big by booking separate legs?

Ugh, tell me about it... my cousin was complaining about a $600 ticket to Denver last month. I looked for like five minutes and found a flight to Colorado Springs for $180, then a bus ticket for $20. She said it was "too much hassle" but like... that's $400 for a two hour bus ride. Some people just don't want to put in the tiny bit of work.

But honestly, sometimes saving that money isn't worth the extra stress. You gotta factor in the bus ride after a long flight, dealing with luggage, and if anything gets delayed you're totally on your own. Paying more for the direct flight is just buying peace of mind and your time back. Some folks value their vacation time way more than a few hundred bucks.

Man, I totally did this for a trip to Seattle. Booked a cheap flight to Portland instead, then took the train north. It was way more relaxed than dealing with a layover and saved me almost $300. That train ride through the mountains was actually the best part.
