Switched from buying stew meat to whole chuck roasts after a $9 mistake

I used to grab those pre-cut stew meat containers for $6 a pound thinking I was saving time, but last month I bought a 3 pound chuck roast on sale for $11 instead and got almost double the meat after trimming. The kicker is I simmered the scraps and bones into broth that made three extra meals out of nothing. Anyone else ever run the numbers on whole cuts versus pre-cut and feel like you were getting ripped off for years?

Yeah exactly, it's wild how the markup on pre-cut stuff is basically paying someone to do a 30 second job with a knife. I did the math on chicken thighs once and same deal, boneless skinless is like a 40% tax for zero effort.

My bf did the same thing with pork shoulder vs pre-cut cubes. Dumb we didnt figure it out sooner.
