Rant: I was buying those pre-chopped frozen onions for way too long
I was at the store last week, grabbing my usual bag of diced frozen onions for $2.99, when I saw a whole bag of fresh yellow onions for $3.49. I did the math (which I should have done years ago) and realized I was paying a huge premium for someone else to do two minutes of chopping. I bought the fresh ones, chopped them all at once, and froze them on a sheet pan myself. Now I have the same thing for half the price. Anyone else have a 'convenience' food they finally ditched?

Kaimiller must live somewhere with cheap produce, a dollar a bag is wild. My local store has them for about two-fifty, which still makes the frozen ones a bad deal. You're right about the texture too, homemade frozen bits keep some structure.

Honestly, the texture is the biggest thing for me. Those frozen pre-chopped ones always turn to mush when you cook them, they have no bite left. Doing it yourself, even after freezing, you get pieces that actually hold their shape in a stew or frittata. Did you notice a difference when you cooked with your own batch?

Wait, you were paying three bucks for frozen onions? That's the real shocker here. I get the fresh ones for like a dollar a bag.
