Just saw a cooking show where they used a whole chicken three ways

It was on a public TV channel yesterday afternoon. The host got a 4 pound chicken for about 8 dollars and made a roast dinner, then used the bones for stock, and finally used the leftover meat for a pot pie. I never thought about stretching one item that far before. What's your best tip for getting multiple meals from one main ingredient?

I mean, I used to just roast a chicken and pick at the leftovers. But seeing them get a stock and a pot pie out of it too is a game changer. My best tip is with a big pork shoulder. You can do pulled pork sandwiches one night, then use the rest for tacos or fried rice the next day.

My best tip is to start with a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store because I'm lazy. I can get a salad, some sandwiches, and then use the carcass for soup if I'm feeling fancy. Rileygonzalez is right, it really is a game changer once you see how far it goes.

Honestly, that just sounds like a lot of work for one chicken. I roast it, we eat it, and whatever's left gets thrown on a salad. Done.
