I hit $87 in meal prep savings last week and it blew my mind

Used to spend $200 a week on takeout but when I actually tracked my grocery haul for 7 days straight I ended up at $113 for 21 meals and I didn't even buy the cheapest stuff, has anyone else crunched the numbers like that and been shocked?

The 21 meals for $113 is actually really solid, especially if you weren't trying to be ultra cheap. I did a similar thing a few months back and realized my problem was all those little snack runs and single meal trips that just add up like crazy. A big one for me was swapping pre-chopped veggies for whole ones and just spending 15 minutes on Sunday doing the knife work myself. Also, buying the family pack of chicken thighs instead of breasts cut my protein cost by almost half and they taste better in most recipes anyway.

I spent 45 minutes chopping veggies last Sunday and honestly my knife skills are so bad that by the end I was just trying to keep all my fingers attached. But it saved me like $12 that week alone just from not buying the pre-cut bags. And idk why it took me so long to switch to chicken thighs, they're way cheaper and I swear they come out juicier even when I forget to check the temp and cook them a little too long.
