I finally compared my cheap Instant Pot to my mom's expensive one side by side

My mom came to visit last weekend and insisted we make her famous chili, but she brought her own $200 Instant Pot because she thinks my $40 one is junk. I told her we'd do a taste test and honestly I was nervous mine would be a flop. We put identical ingredients in both pots and set them for the same time (30 minutes on high pressure). Her chili came out fine, but mine was actually thicker and had more flavor because the seal on her lid was getting worn out. She got this look on her face when she tasted both and said 'well yours needs more salt' but we all knew the truth. My cheap pot has been going strong for two years and I've made beans, rice, soups, even yogurt in it without a single issue. Has anyone else found that the budget version works just as well as the fancy brand?

Has anyone else ever gotten that smug look from a family member about their expensive kitchen gear? I used to be one of those people who thought you had to spend big money on an Instant Pot. My sister has the top of the line model and she always bragged about it. Then last year my mom gave me her old cheap one because she upgraded and I was like whatever, I'll use it for beans. But after a few months I realized it cooked everything just as fast and the seal was still tight. Your story about the chili and the worn out gasket really hit home because that's exactly what happened to her fancy one after a year. I think the expensive ones just have more useless buttons and a prettier box.
