My local con's 'Trash to Treasure' panel totally flipped my wig budget
I was at Anime Midwest last month and went to a panel where people built entire outfits from thrift store finds. This one cosplayer showed us her Jester from Critical Role look, pieced together from a $5 jacket, some old curtains, and a ton of hot glue. I used to think I needed fancy wigs, but she styled hers from a $3 yarn bundle from the craft store. It looked amazing and held up all day. Anyone else tried making a wig from scratch with cheap materials?

Oh man, that yarn wig trick is so smart. (Just a heads up, Jester is from Critical Role, not Adventure Zone though, easy mix-up.) That panel sounds like it was a total game changer for saving money.

That yarn wig hack actually cost me more than a cheap synthetic one.

My wife tried that same yarn wig hack a few months back for a cosplay thing. She was trying to do a character that had blue hair and thought yarn would be cheaper than buying a real wig. By the time she bought all the different colors of yarn, the foam base, and the glue it cost more than just getting a cheap synthetic one from Amazon. She ended up with a lumpy mess that looked nothing like the character anyway. Funny how those "saving money" hacks always end up costing more in the end. But I guess you learn something every time you try something new, right @oliviac22?
