I built a whole Mandalorian helmet from a thrift store bike helmet and some old floor mats
Last weekend I found a basic bike helmet for $4 at Goodwill, cut up some leftover car floor mats for the armor plates, and glued it all together with a hot glue gun. The whole thing cost me maybe $12 and a few hours of work, and it looks way better than I thought it would. Has anyone else tried using car mats for armor pieces, or got other cheap material tips?

Cutting up old floor mats for armor plates is a solid idea. How did you get them to hold the curved shape of the helmet without just flopping over? Did you heat them up first or just force them with the glue?

Wait, you seriously used a hot glue gun for the whole thing and it's holding up? I've had that stuff fail on me with way less weight than floor mats. Did you have to use like, a whole stick of glue per piece or something? That's kind of amazing it didn't just fall apart when you picked it up.
