That old greenhouse in Ashville changed my watering game
Went to a workshop at the Biltmore Estate greenhouse last month and the guy there showed me how to water my orchids by feeling the pot weight instead of a schedule. I had been killing them for 2 years with too much water. Has anyone else switched to this method for indoor plants?

Three overwatered ferns later, I finally tried the weight trick and it actually works.

Totally agree, I had the same problem with my succulents. I was watering them on a schedule and they just rotted out. Once I started picking up the pots and feeling how heavy they were it totally clicked. Now I wait until they feel almost weightless before I water and everything is way happier. Have you noticed a big difference with your orchids already?

Nah, I'm gonna play full devil's advocate here because I think the weight trick is kinda overhyped lol. Saying you have to wait until they feel 'almost weightless' sounds like a recipe for stressing your plants out. I've killed succulents by underwatering them just as much as overwatering, honestly. Some of those thicker leafed ones can handle a bit of neglect but waiting until they're totally dry can make the roots shrivel up. Plus different pots and soil mixes throw off the weight thing too. I just stick to a rough schedule and check the soil with my finger, never had a problem.
