Just got my first bloom from a cutting I almost tossed
I took a random cutting from a pothos at my dentist's office 8 months ago, stuck it in water, and forgot about it. It finally grew a new leaf with white variegation I didn't know it had. Has anyone else had luck with cuttings from unexpected places?

Oh man, that's the best kind of surprise. I think the whole world is basically a free plant nursery if you're paying attention. Every time I see a sad looking succulent in a store or a vine trailing out of a neighbor's fence, I start mentally planning a little heist. It's funny how something you almost throw away can turn out to be the most interesting thing you own. That white variegation is like a secret reward for not giving up on it.

You've got to be careful with that whole "free nursery" mindset though. I'm curious, have you ever actually taken a cutting from a neighbor's fence or grabbed a sad plant from a store without asking? Because I've definitely done it once or twice and sometimes I feel like a total plant pirate, other times I think it's just being resourceful. The white variegation thing you mentioned is real, it's like the plant is showing off once it knows you actually care about it. But I wonder if there's a line between rescuing something and just taking what isn't yours, you know?
