I got called out for my orchid care routine and it actually helped

A friend visited my place in Austin and straight up told me my phalaenopsis orchids looked stressed from overwatering. She pointed out the wrinkled leaves and said 'you're drowning them with love, give them a dry week'. I switched to watering only every 10 days and the new growth looks way better now. Has anyone else had a plant care habit that was actually hurting things?

My basil kept dying until I realized I was putting it in direct Texas sun all day. Moved it to morning light only and it finally took off.

That's interesting, my experience has been the total opposite. My basil always gets weak and leggy if it doesn't get a full day of sun, even in pretty hot weather. Maybe it depends on the soil staying wet enough, because mine is in a really big pot that holds water well. I've found the more sun, the bushier and stronger it grows for me.
