Can we talk about how I hung bookshop window displays for 2 years before realizing I was doing one thing totally wrong?

I run the window at a little shop called Paper Trail Books here in Portland, and for 2 years I taped my display cards to the glass from the inside. A customer finally asked why the tape shadows were so ugly in her photos, and I felt like a dummy. I switched to fishing line and tiny suction cups, and the whole thing looks like it's floating now. Has anyone else had a customer point out something you stared past for years?
