Hit the wall on Dune 200 pages in
I kept hearing how great it was so I forced myself through the first 150 pages of politics and sand walking. Then I realized I didn't care about any of the characters and was just trying to finish it to say I did. Did anyone else finally give up on a classic after realizing you just don't vibe with it?

Oh, I've absolutely been there. Life is too short to read books you hate, even if everyone says they're masterpieces. Just set it aside and pick up something that actually makes you want to turn the page.

Three years ago I finally gave up on "Ulysses" after trying to get through it for like six months lol. @alice445 you hit the nail on the head, life really is too short for that guilt trip. I remember sitting there forcing myself through pages and hating every second just because some professor told me it was the greatest novel ever written. Now I give any book about 50 pages and if it's not clicking I just toss it and grab something else. There's way too many good books out there to waste time on ones that feel like homework.
