My dad handed me Tuesdays with Morrie the week I got laid off and I read the whole thing in one night
Got the call on a Friday in March, 4 years at the company and they gave me 20 minutes to clean my desk. My dad dropped off a beat up copy of Tuesdays with Morrie that same weekend, said he read it when his plant shut down in '09. I sat on my kitchen floor in Columbus and read all 192 pages in like 3 hours, crying at the part about Morrie saying death ends a life but not a relationship. My dad and I never really talk about feelings but we talked for 2 hours the next day about that book. Has anyone else had a parent hand them a book at the exact right moment, and which one was it?
Waited what, 20 minutes to clean out 4 years? That is unreal. And your dad just quietly dropping off a beat up copy like that, no big speech, no lecture, just here kid read this. The part that got me is him having read it back in '09 when his plant shut down and never once mentioning it to you until you needed it. That is such a dad move, keeping a book for 15 years just waiting for the right moment. I bet that copy had his own tear stains in it already. Two hours of feelings talk the next day is basically a whole new relationship for most dads.
