Tried wheat paste for the first time last week, never going back to PVA for paper
I was repairing an old ledger from 1927 and the PVA kept wrinkling the pages, so I mixed up some wheat paste with a recipe I found in a blog from Portland and it worked way better. Anyone else switch over for restoration work or am I just late to the party?

Wait, you found the Portland blog too? That recipe with the extra rice flour is basically the cheat code, I tell everyone about it. But yeah, PVA might as well be a pancake press for old paper, it just flattens everything into a sad, shiny mess. Wheat paste is like the gentle giant, it actually lets the fibers breathe while you work. I switched about a year ago after ruining a 1908 map that still haunts my dreams, so welcome to the forgiving side.
