Pro tip: I stopped buying the newest book club pick and started waiting 3 weeks for the library copy
Our club in Sacramento meets the first Tuesday of each month and for 2 years I was buying every pick the day it was announced, usually $18 to $26 each. Then in January our pick was a debut novel the library only had 4 copies of, so I put a hold and waited, and honestly the discussion was better because I read it slower and took notes on a cheap legal pad. Now I just check the library app first and only buy if the wait list is over 10 people. Does your club ever pick stuff that is impossible to get without paying full price, and how do you handle that?
