Our book club debate turned into a food fight over symbolism

We were talking about that novel where the author uses apples to mean temptation. Someone brought real apples to make a point, and it got silly. People started tossing them gently to show different interpretations. I ended up with apple slices in my hair, and we all cracked up. Now we call it the fruit salad meeting.

My friend's club once tried to discuss a book about weighty secrets. He brought a whole watermelon as a prop, which looked ridiculous next to this tiny paperback. The meeting never recovered from the giggling.

Actually that sounds like a pretty great way to get people talking, @the_sam. I mean, a watermelon is way more memorable than just staring at a book cover. Maybe it got everyone to loosen up and actually share something real. The goal is to talk about the big stuff in the book, right? If a silly prop gets you there, then it worked.
