Rant: I used to think a good game night meant buying every expansion
The tipping point was seeing a friend's simple, worn copy of Ticket to Ride with no add-ons get played three times in an evening, while my giant box of Carcassonne stuff gathered dust. How do you decide when a game is 'complete' enough for your group?

My group has a simple rule we call the "two expansion limit." If a game needs more than two big boxes to feel good, it's probably not for us. We realized we were spending more time setting up and learning new rules than actually playing. That worn Ticket to Ride copy gets played because everyone knows it by heart, so the fun comes from the people, not the pieces. For us, a game is complete when the base game still gets picked off the shelf after a year. All the extra stuff just made our favorite games feel like a chore.

Oh man, I feel this in my bones. I used to be the same way, buying every little box until my shelves groaned. Honestly, @lilyfisher's two-expansion rule sounds pretty smart to me now. A game is done when adding more stuff just makes everyone sigh instead of smile.
