Guy at my Tuesday game night argued a rule for 40 minutes using a pizza box as evidence
Last week at our Tuesday meetup in Riverside, a guy named Dave spent 40 minutes insisting he could trade cards mid-turn in Catan because the rulebook "implies it." He then grabbed a grease-stained pizza box and drew a diagram of the trade routes on the lid with a Sharpie. Everyone just stared while the rest of us watched our turns pile up and our drinks go flat. We finally flipped to page 6 and showed him the exact line, and he goes "well that is just poorly worded." Has anyone else had a rules lawyer who treats a game manual like it is open to personal interpretation?
Buddy of mine tried to pull the same move with Monopoly once, said the bank "morally owed" him interest on his cash stack. He pulled out a receipt from CVS and started doing math on the back of it like that proved anything. We just let him finish because honestly it was funnier than the actual game.
