Tried to fix a blurry picture of my kid at the zoo for 2 hours, then realized the problem was me
I was at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago last Saturday and got this super cute shot of my daughter watching the seals, but it came out so soft and shaky. I messed around with sharpening sliders and noise tools in Lightroom for almost 2 hours trying to save it, and my husband finally said the whole pic was shot at 1/15 shutter speed because I was rushing. Blew it up to 100 percent and sure enough, my own hand shake was baked in from the start. So now I am wondering, is there any real way to save a shot that blurry, or do I just need to accept it and shoot faster next time?
What was the subject doing when you shot it? If your daughter was moving at all, even just turning her head, 1/15 is going to smear her no matter how steady your hands were. That is the part people miss, because shake and motion blur look the same in a soft photo and you fix them in totally different ways. Sharpening in Lightroom will not bring back detail that was never recorded, so the honest answer is there is no real save, just a shot that looks a little less bad when you shrink it down for a small print.
