Tried sharpening my kitchen knife on a coffee mug at 2 AM after losing my stone

Woke up the next morning and my egg slide turned into a blurry mess because the edge was so uneven it wouldn't cut through a tomato, so has anyone else ruined a blade trying a hack from a late night YouTube binge?

You basically turned a knife into a metal toothbrush. The coffee mug trick is good for a field expedient touch-up, not reshaping a blade after you've been drinking and watching a guy who sharpens axes with a belt sander. Your egg is living proof that a sharp knife is safer than a dull one, because yours is now just a tiny, useless pry bar.

Wait you're seriously trying to claim that mug trick is just for field touch ups? I've been using it for years and my knives are sharp enough to shave with. But hey maybe I'm just doing it wrong and my egg is actually a tiny pry bar now. Pretty sure I could still break a window with it if I had to though. Not exactly useless but definitely not winning any beauty contests.
