Took my camera to the Grand Canyon last week and the wind nearly ruined every shot

I was out at Mather Point around 4 PM and the gusts were hitting maybe 30 mph. My cheap tripod shook like crazy on the rocky ground even with the legs spread wide. Every single landscape shot came out soft because of the vibration plus the dust haze. Has anyone found a way to stabilize a lightweight setup in high wind without spending $300 on a pro tripod?

Ask what exactly it was that pushed them over the edge last week... was it one specific thing or just a lot of little stuff piling up? I hate those days where everything feels stacked against you and you just want to scream into the void.
