PSA: burst mode is the only way I get sharp shots of my dog now

I kept missing focus on my mutt at the park in Portland until I just held the shutter down for 10 frames at a time. Out of 40 snaps, at least 3 come out tack sharp every time, and I just delete the rest. Has anyone else given up on single shots for moving subjects or is it just me?

I burned through 86 shots at the dog park last Tuesday and got maybe 4 keepers. My labrador looked like a blurry potato in most of them, so burst mode is basically my only hope too. I've gotten so lazy that I just hold the button down and pray the autofocus figures it out before I run out of memory card space. It's not elegant, but neither is my dog, so we match.
